
A Brief History of Roller Derby

The team was the flagship of the Los Angeles T-Birds (Thunderbirds) and lasted until the 70's 80's and 90's through the early years of the 21st century with many ups and downs in popularity.
Roller Jam was based in the original roller derby skaters skates using mainly online and was broadcast from 1999-2001. It takes place in a theatrical production in large part what which caused many skaters felt that it should focus on the original concept of a skating competition to boycott the show.
Roller Derby Today
The sport has gained popularity today with many hundreds of much all girl teams competing in the U.S.. There are also some mixed teams and even some equipment for all men.
About 60 teams are all members of the girl Women's Association Flat Track Derby (WFTDA), which establishes rules for competitions between leagues. Travel teams compete in regional games .. organizes the WFTDA championships and published rankings of its members.
The Old School Derby Association was formed in May 2007 and promotes the sport among its members. The rules are based on early versions of Roller Derby, but also incorporates new rules to accommodate the fast-moving defensive game that exists today.
The sport is now worldwide with the leagues in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Sweden, Netherlands Netherlands, Ireland, Canada and Germany.
