HISTORY
The first recognizes Cheltenham Festival was held at Prestbury Park in 1902. The precursor to the Gold Cup, four miles with obstacles, for amateur riders was executed in 1904. The opening of the Cheltenham Gold Cup was run in 1924, won by Red Splash. The prize money was £ 700.The last quarter has seen eight runnings 9 years of age, seven of 8 years old, five 10-year-old and five 7 years age successfully. Only seven of the last twenty-five favorites have won: Kaut Star 2007, Best Mate 2003 / 2004, Master Oats in 1995, Desert Orchid 1989 Dawn Run in 1986 and Bregawn in 1983. Four horses trained in Ireland have won in the same period: the 2006 War of Attrition, Kicking King, 2005, Imperial Call Dawn 1996 Run (1984 Champion Hurdle winner) in 1986.

The Cheltenham Gold Cup is a Grade 1 National Hunt run more obstacles of a 3-mile, 2 ½ Furlong course with 22 fences. The 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup is scheduled for Friday 14 March, with prize money of £ 450k. There are two coaches which could, theoretically, equal or even better Michael Dickinson's feat of sending the first five, as it did in 1983. Among the forty-two entries, both Paul Nicholls and David Pipe with six entries each. There are some notable absences from the entries. Ireland coach Michael Hourigan has entered its Mossbank promising, but no meat or Salmon, who has worked in the past five Gold Cups, the 2005 winner, Kicking King, far exceeded expectations of his trainer, Tom Taaffe, and all but won in his recent return to run Gowran Park, having been out of the course of about 750 days.

Conclusion
In a race with a disadvantage, as the Grand National, the best horses give weight to their smaller rivals, enabling them to compete on equal terms. The Cheltenham Gold Cup is a Grade 1 race, not a disadvantage, with all runners who 11a carrying 10 lbs (with the exception of the mares, who receive an allowance of 5 pounds). This means that, theoretically, the best horse should win. As a result, prices runners seemed likely to be shorter than disadvantages. However, there are a series of online markets available which exclude the market leaders, so it should be possible to have an interest in the race, without having to invest large sums of money.
