Round the World Yacht to stop at Santa Cruz

Clipper Round the World Yacht race 07/08 fleet will be docking at Santa Cruz in California to make a stop ten days, the candles in the leg after a challenge across the Pacific from Hawaii.

At the time the Clipper Fleet docks in Santa Cruz, ten 68-foot boat will have traveled 25,000 miles and stopped at nine ports on five continents. Despite these statistics exhausting, the yachts will still have another 10,000 miles to travel before they reach the end of the race 10 months.

During the ten-day scale, routine maintenance will take place in the ships, but will be reforested and teams will have a break from the ocean rights, but still be very busy preparing for the next leg of yachts race, 3,300 miles across the Pacific from Panama.

The Clipper Round the World Race 2007-08 is a truly American, with six American crew aboard a yacht called 'New York', and Santa Cruz is one of three U.S. ports visited in the race to circumnavigate the globe. However, this is the first time the Clipper race is organized by Santa Cruz. Clipper Chairman and noted solo sailor Sir Robin Knox-Johnston said: "We are delighted that the Clipper Race visit Santa Cruz in April next year. This is the first time the Clipper fleet has visited California and I'm sure the crew will receive a warm welcome from the people of Santa Cruz.

It appears that the Port Commission is also eagerly anticipating the event, with the Speaker Bill Lee, adding: "The port of Santa Cruz is honored to have been selected as a port of call in the Clipper race. The race is going to create an ideal opportunity for the family, friends and supporters who visit our city. Rest assured that everyone will receive a warm welcome. "

Ten yachts in the race are each allocation up to 17 individuals from 27 countries and come from a variety of sources. Before the start of the race in Liverpool, 40% of the crew members had no sailing experience, but by the time they arrive to Santa Cruz to some eight months later the sea will all be able hands.

This idyllic town in California is waiting for a mini-boom with the arrival of the fleet and find a hotel in Santa Cruz which is not sold when the sailing yacht will be a challenge.
