What is the best area to live in in Santa Cruz?
I'm moving there to attend UC-Santa Cruz. I need an area that can still be affordable. Yes, I know Santa Cruz is expensive.
You cant live near the campus because it is way up on a hill far from everything. Also try and look on the West side such as the Live Oak neighborhood or Cliff Ave along the ocean, which is safer. Avoid downtown and the Boardwalk for living. Avoid Riverside Ave and Ocean Ave where the cheaper motels are. Nothing is affordable in coastal California and everyone of student status must share a place. If you want to go outside Santa Cruz, Capitola is a small town but nice. If you end up having to live outside Santa Cruz because of finances, you can go to Freedom or Watsonville and drive to school. If you go north near Hwy 1, there is Davenport, and if you go into the mountains there is Bonny Doon and Big Basin and Scotts Valley, all a few miles from S.C.
