4 cases of 2JZ GTE engine overheating, and some issues of boiling coolant
target = "_self"> 2JZ-GTE engine overheating - Disaster? Maybe ...
The most common causes for 2JZ GTE engine overheating can be attributed the following:
- Incorrect ignition timing, which I probably could not explain further here, since they have no (or I) with experience.
- The radiator air flow insufficient - see if your standard viscous fan is working properly. If you are using aftermarket fan, be sure to use a ducted / shrouded dual fan (MVP Motorsports has some good). Cheap single electric fan, double fan or not involved are mostly incapable of cooling the 2JZ powerful, especially if you have a FMIC. The standard fan flows approx. 3300 CFM (cubic feet per minute), whereas only weak fan Supercheap Auto can flow around 1200 CFM, if you're lucky.
- Shrouds standard cooling fan removed. Taking off from these fan shroud can cause cooling air to be blown unduly sides instead of being channeled through the radiator as it should.
- Coolant and the problem of insufficient cooling. More about these below.
2JZ GTE Supra cooling problems leading to engine overheating engine is more likely of the following:
- Insufficient engine coolant. Be sure to keep the coolant in the overflow bottle / tank properly filled to proper level.
- The defective radiator cap. This should be the next thing to look at, especially since the radiator cap is very inexpensive (only $ 5 - $ 20). Not recommended upgrading to a higher pressure, as sometimes the water pump, gaskets, or seals pipes that can not to cope with increasing working pressure. But if your radiator cap is old, replace it with a new one to see if that solves the problem. If the lid the radiator can not handle the pressure within the cooling system, water boils at a much lower temperature, leading to spit boiling water from his bottle radiator overflow.
- Cavitation within the engine coolant. Sometimes (especially inappropriate to fill after coolant flush) may be air trapped in the engine, which expands at a faster rate than when the engine coolant warms. This causes the coolant out and finish them spit on the radiator overflow bottle as if boiling. Some owners supra achieved through carefully keeping coolant topped up Everytime spits, and for several days, the problem simply disappeared. However, it is advisable to consult the proper mechanics-can of air to the engine in a more efficient before causing more damage (water pump air flow, etc.).
- Drain cooling system. Leaks in the cooling system (leaking pipes, leaking hose, the water filtration pump gasket) can introduce air into the system as the water cools the engine after use. As that the system cools, contracts for water / air contracts and vacuuming, making cavitation above.
- Blown Head Gasket (BHG). This is a massive, such as the repair would have the turbo assembly off, undoing the wiring and connectors on the top of the engine, the cancellation cover cam and camera, with the head, and machining of the head for securing the seat plane after repair. That equates to thousands of dollars (my mechanic did mine for about $ 3K - $ 4K), because it would take a lot of machining and over 20 man-hours. If you do your own car, with pleasure, because the parties not too expensive (only $ 300 - $ 500 per head gasket kit) and would be a great opportunity to overhaul the engine.
BHG is rare in 2JZ-GTE running impulsive actions, unless something is wrong or your engine is old. But it happens occasionally.
When the head gasket is blown during power sequencing by of the hot air can get pushed into the cooling system through the leak in the head gasket, leading to cavitation, as well as a large number heating in the coolant.
Symptoms of the Supra 2JZ-GTE blown head gasket include (but each may or may not appear, regardless of the others):
- white / milky residue in the oil, you can check via the oil dipstick. This indicates that water is being sent to the oil chambers / passages.
- hydrocarbon residues in the refrigerant can be seen through the radiator cap. This indicates that the oil is being sent to the cooling channels.
- white powder residue on the spark plugs. This indicates that the water leaking in the combustion chambers.
- Some mechanics team can do a sniffer test with some teams, to see if any of the combustion gases in the coolant exists. This is done normally taking the radiator cap.
- The pressure test cooling system
- The pressure test of the combustion chamber
