California Recreation Clear Lake

California is known for its pristine coastline, but the state also has a lot of large freshwater lakes, including Clear Lake, just a couple hours north of San Francisco.

A friend visited Clear Lake not long ago and returned to rave about the scenic beauty natural and unexpected area - so we had to investigate. In a recent swing through Northern California, which fell in the Clear Lake, staying at a small resort, waterfront unpretentious, that brought back memories of childhood holidays in the stations of the lake in central Washington state. It was like a Vacation in one easy place in a simpler time.

In more than 43,000 acres, Clear Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in California, and some say which may be the oldest lake in North America. The lake is the center of several communities in the Lake County area, including Lakeport, Clearlake, Kelseyville, Glenhaven and several others. Together, these communities and several parks in the area offer a wide range of activities from family vacations.

These include navigation, fishing and swimming, three main reasons people stay at the Seabreeze Resort in Glenhaven, headquarters for our brief stay in the area of Clear Lake. Owner Steve Nash occurred in the village many years ago when I was looking to buy a waterfront home. His accountant advised him that the revenue of the station would go a long way to help pay for your new home on the coast, so that Nash - who had never operated any type of lodging facility - took the step.

Today Nash divides his time between Clear Lake and San Diego, where he lives during the winter months. But each year, from April to October, is open again around the lake and watch the complex management tasks. With just a housewife for help, Nash is at dawn every day, working for the sunset and the past. But as we discovered, always finds time to talk and joke around with his guests - many of whom have been returning to the small town for many years.

Since traveling with a period of four years of age, who were booked into the "family wing" of the station - some cleaning units a bit further from the water and guests in the adult wing facing the sea. Our house was like a small apartment, perhaps the vintage 1950, but well renovated and cheerfully decorated. A kitchen included complete and a living room, bathroom and a bedroom with two queen beds. Fortunately, this summer visit, the unit was air conditioned.

Our house was a lawn, chairs and various people rush outside the door. Nearby was the fragrant flower garden of Steve - which obviously has much care in maintaining - and then a little further was the launching of the ship, port and bathing area. In short, the Seabreeze offers everything needed for a stay tranquil shores of lake or a base for your holiday boat.

But we were visiting Clear Lake to explore. Why was everyone raving this lake?

The first thing we discovered was that, as advertised, the lake and its surroundings are beautiful. The blue water lake is in the midst of a mountainous landscape mostly wooded which is especially interesting when approaching from the east. We also note that this lake is great. On the map it looked like it would be quite easy to circumnavigate since there were no highways, roads and cities and towns near the lake. Once you drive, however, soon became apparent our trip around the lake we will take at least a day and a half.

En route we stopped at several cities in small lake, including the largest city, Clearlake, which is the largest population center in a region that only has about 12,000 permanent residents. Every city is different, but all share the beauty of Clear Lake and recreational opportunities never far away.

Throughout most of the lake find a combination of private homes and small motels and inns, as the sea breeze. We noted, however, a large timeshare complex on the northwest coast and the famous Konocti Harbor Resort and Spa, known for bringing holder musical acts for performances at the outdoor amphitheater Konocti Field and showroom inside the complex. In total, the complex offers at over 100 concerts year.

We realized that parks are abundant throughout the region. Many are found in more than 100 miles offshore, but also for camping and sports aquatic parks offer several other features. For example, the Anderson Marsh State Park is known for nature walks and bird watching, while the Middletown Trailside Nature Preserve offers the "EcoArts Lake County Scupture Walk" held in 107 acres of natural park. There are plenty of other opportunities to learn about the history of Clear Lake, including two county museums, the Museum Lake County in Lakeport and Lower Lake Historical Museum School in Lower Lake. More information about the stars in the Planetarium and Observatory in Kelseyville Taylor.

For those who enjoy visiting wineries, this region has several that are all within driving distance of the lagoon.

No matter what the cost, there seemed no great number of fishermen taking advantage of what locals say is the best bass fishing in the West. The bass fishing is so good that several organizations commercial fishing under Clear Lake have been designated as the lowest lake in the country. But not only the low - catfish, blackfish, Sacramento perch, hitch, and the minnow of bluegill are all caught in Clear Lake.
