Visit the Bronx Zoo in New York

The Bronx Zoo is the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States, consisting of 265 acres of natural habitats and over 4,000 animals. The zoo opened on 8 November 1899 and focused on conservation, something that still practiced today. The Bronx Zoo is owned and operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society (formerly known as the New York Zoological Society) and was one of the first zoos in the United States that moved animals from cages expanding replica living environments. Species are mixed to create a more realistic environment for animals and patterns zoo. Zoo admission charges to assist in the maintenance and preservation of the species of the exhibition.

One of the jewels of the Bronx Zoo is the Congo Gorilla Forest, which has more than 400 animals and 55 different species (22 and gorillas) and 15,000 plants representing 400 species. The 6.5-hectare forest is the largest manmade forest in the world. The Congo Gorilla Forest is also the home of Patty Cake, the first gorilla born in New York. In addition, the Zoo Bronx has almost one hectare of rainforest within Asia. Another interesting habitat is the habitat plans in Africa, where the zoo workers have integrated a number of predators and prey species separated by a complex system of ditches. Lions, giraffes, zebras, and other savannah dwelling animals live in this habitat.

Other attractions include the World of Darkness, an exhibition dedicated to cover nocturnal animals, Tiger Mountain, an award-winning three-acre home for Siberian tigers Himalayan mountain, one hectare of habitat authentically decorated by a Tibetan monk, Baboon Reserve, a simulated archaeological dig; Bengali Express, a two-mile monorail ride through various habitats, Aquatic Birdhouse, construction of the giraffe, and the World of Reptiles. Zoo The Children's offers a variety of interactive activities such as climbing a spider web, crawling through a tunnel of prairie dog, sliding like a lizard of a hollow tree, and, of course, a petting zoo.

The zoo has a special relationship with the bison and snow leopards. The Model of bison to the buffalo nickel was a resident of the Bronx Zoo. In addition, many of today's bison in the U.S. Westerners are descendants of the Bronx Zoo bison. William T. Hornaday cultivated a deep interest in the American bison, which once numbered over 50 million. In the 1890s, fewer than 1,000 bison believed to exist in nature. In October 1899, Hornaday purchased bison from the Bronx Zoo and began building a cabin. In 1907, the Bronx Zoo was able to send fifteen bison to Oklahoma Wichita Mountain Preserve. Shortly afterwards, the bison were provided to Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska. Many of the bison in the U.S. Westerners today are descendants of bison in the Bronx Zoo. Similarly, the Bronx Zoo was the first zoo in the Western Hemisphere to present successful and snow leopards in the race, a total of 82 pups born between 1966 and 1999.

The Bronx Zoo has edutainment category for the whole family and is open all year. Some rides require separate admission fee, children under 2 years are free.
